Why do we take ourselves so seriously?

I am that I am.
Seriously though, oftentimes when I am working with someone from a spiritual coaching perspective, I often notice self-criticism has been ingrained into us...this is the very thing holding us back. If we just stepped into all our glory, the inner Christ creation, we would step into the greatness that is the one Power.

We all have it in ourselves to do great things. Then, why do some people flail and others shoot the moon with success? It is simple, we each need to remember who we are in the Christ mind, the creative process. Once we achieve remembrance, we can then step into all we were intended to be.
So, let’s take a look at how self-criticism holds us back from all we are supposed to be on this earth. When we begin criticizing ourselves, it plagues our mind and spirit and quite literally stops us in our tracks. In Unity, these types of negative self talk thoughts are called error thoughts because they are not the truth of who we were meant to be. Thus, we need to create a way to remove these erroneous thoughts with new and improved thoughts. If we simply remove the error thoughts without replacing them with new healthy thought practices, those error thoughts are sure to creep back in. Here are some ideas for creating healthy thought processes in our daily lives.
1. Use daily affirmations. Daily affirmations are a powerful way to reprogram our internal chatter to positive and productive thought processes.
a. Some examples of affirmations are:
I am allowed to be the best I can be today.
I am worthy.
I am loved.
I am powerful and effective in my daily tasks.
I am a child of God and love is my normal state.
2. Create a mastermind team to support you.
a. Create a team/friends/acquaintances around you who are positive and inspired. It helps to have someone to call when times get tough or our monkey mind goes down a rabbit hole.
b. Use your spiritual community and ask for support when needed.
3. Mirror work. Mirror work may seem a bit odd to some, but is extremely powerful for remembering who we are in the eyes of God. The idea of mirror work is to fall in love with your own spirit by remembering the Christ within.
a. Stand each morning in front of the mirror.
b. Look deep into your own eyes.
c. Say, I LOVE YOU, to yourself as you gaze into your eyes ten times.
d. Repeat this daily for 30 days and watch your world start to change for the better.
These are but a few ideas to make your world a little gentler, settle down the self-criticism and begin to fully love ourselves the way Christ intended. If we can’t love ourselves, how in the world can we love another?
Abundant Blessings.
